Time for a conversation, Dr. Hoskins

He looks perpetually angry, casting a looming shadow with that gaze, frowning eyebrows and messy hair, belying his true role running the health system. Who is this guy looking like the Angriest of the Angry Birds, Red.

He’s Eric Hoskins, our health minister, planting the fear of God in our 28,000 doctors in the province. Just like Red, he comes across as a bit of an outcast with a cynical outlook.

Suspects are not police ‘clients’

One of the frequent questions put to me by the media and the public during my¬ campaign in the recent by-election in Ottawa-Vanier was whether I would continue to be the same outspoken person I was as Ombudsman. I found the question bewildering. An Ombudsman is a public servant. Politicians enjoy much greater ability to speak their mind than a traditional bureaucrat, subject, of course to party politics.
